Hello,
Is QT 7 required to play videos in DJ Pro? If so, is there going to be a replacement b/c this product is not supported.
Please advise

Yes, for windows Serato Video still wants to use QT7 unfortunately with Windows.
There are other "unofficial" codec packs out there you can try to install. You'll have to dig through older threads on here.

Hello popnwave,
I see you mentioned for windows. Is it used for Apple?

No because Apple continues to develop QT on macOS where it is up to 10.5 last I checked.

If you are a windows 10/11 user, i have recently found that installing the "k-lite codec pack" , (instead of using the bundled "quicktime7" codecs) , has enabled me able to run Serato Video on and HP i7 elitebook (with intel iris plus gpu) running windows11 with acceptable performance.
I found this tip to use the k-lite codec pack recently , from some 1 year old back post on reddit. I wont link the reddit site as you can probably google it out and search "k-lite codec pack video sl serato:
The k-lite codec pack was recently updated last week on sept 2, 2024.
www.codecguide.com
I would suspect that if you use this codec pack for video sl, then you will not be supported by serato...
I am just sharing that it has helped me from purchasing an apple m2/m3 max laptop for the time being....
Using this k-lite codec pack (mega) , Serato Video has still crashed once after about 1.5 hrs of use (...probably got too hot...) , but after clicking the button to 'cancel' (sending report to serato) , serato video output window opens up again quickly , and is playing videos again automatically... I didnt have to reboot the laptop, however (from previous experience) after serato video has crashed and restarted about 5-6 times, I have had to reboot the laptop, before i could get video sl to start up again......
I do not believe Serato advises to use this k-lite codec pack, but this codec pack has helped me to run serato video with a 2023 i7 16G RAM HPE 14" elitebook type laptop(windows optimizations applied) that uses an Intel IRIS plus graphics. I do not believe the Intel IRIS chip is some superior graphics chip... My windows laptop, that i got from work@HPE is not some super gaming type latop, but it seems to now run video sl , after pre-analyzed stems , with the Pioneer DDJ Rev7 controller.
Years ago, i did run Video-SL from a 2008 Macbook pro 15" with nvidia 8600 GPU(i think) , so i am comparing my experience using this windows elitebook laptop , to the super performance i experienced with Mix Emergency 2.0 , using my old 2008 Macbook Pro...
Previously to using the k-lite codec pack , and instead using the default quicktime7 codec stuff that is by default installed when you install video-SL, my windows laptop would run at like 60% and spike to 100% for the GPU... Video-SL run, but run sluggishly.. and crash often... that's how i know what happens if you let it keep crashing over and over again... you will need to reboot eventually...
Video SL settings used were like: (IIRC)
Resolution Settings tried 360p/720p/1080p
Quality Setting tried: medium/high
vsync enabled
constant
preserve
.....My laptop is off and away from me currently....so i am trying to remember the settings that i recently saw an hour ago....
But after installing k-lite codec pack(MEGA) , and letting the k-lite codec pack auto-matically uninstall other codec packs (halaal / matroska / ffdshow) , the serato video seems much better and runs at like 20-60% GPU . Much smoother than before...
I have only been running with k-lite codec pack for a couple days thus far, but so far, video-sl seems much better than before.... And, i am not convinced that I need to purchase a new Apple laptop immediately... Maybe if I play AV1 videos instead of h.264....
anyways, this post can help me to remember to install this k-lite codec pack , If I get a new laptop from work, and I need to re-install Serato DJ PRO and video-SL stuff...

Thx MSF for the response. I feel Serato should come up with an approved codec that is supported today and bundled that.
