Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

Problems with Serato Video, M2 (or lower) Macs and AV1 files.

I own Serato pro & video w/ a lot of Serato extras. I think I found a problem with newer videos, in the AV1 format - that they will not play on a mac running Sonoma 14.2.1, Serato 3.1.1 and any mac with an M2 processor (or lower). When I try to run one of these videos I get an error message and just the audio of the video will play.

As i understand, Apple corrected this and M3 processors are able to decode AV1s.

My questions:
- anyone else in a similar config have the same problems?
- anyone with a M3 able to run these videos?

One suggestion was to convert the videos to another format that the mac would play, but that can get very time consuming.

Has anyone solved this problem?
Is Serato aware of this and (possibly) working on a fix?

Thanks for taking the time out reading this and hopefully there is an answer out there somewhere...

This is a macOS thing, best bet is to see if the demo of MixEmergency (inklen.com) will play the videos, yeah it has the watermark but it will give you a path to correction. Serato Video hasn't been update in SO long I don't think AV1 is remotely high on their list.

I think we all hope that _maybe_ when SDJ Pro gets a native code release they will fix some of the lingering SV quirks.

I will try what you say, thanks. Hopefully Serato will see this and what we are seeing in the real world and help.
Thanks for the replay.

Anyone else?

Problems with Serato Video may include issues such as software crashes, video playback errors, syncing problems between audio and video, compatibility issues with hardware or operating systems, and performance issues like lagging or freezing during use. Troubleshooting these problems may involve updating software and drivers, adjusting settings, reinstalling the application, or seeking assistance from Serato support forums or customer service. coursependent.com

I appreciate the response. I didn't say anything about crashes or freezes. The product is fine, in fact rock solid. As far as drivers or operating systems - of course all was checked and or update if needed - that's the first thing i looked for.
Decoding a video to 'work' (play) is actually done in chip with the M2. The M3 chip does support the AV1 format, the M2 (or lower) does not.
I posted this question here because I know there are many dj's playing videos that don't have the latest and greatest processor from apple and perhaps someone had a workaround, or possibly Serato could propose a solution to this issue.
