The <a href="srislaw.com of Domestic Violence Act New Jersey</a> provides legal protection to victims of domestic abuse. Enacted in 1991, the law defines domestic violence as various criminal acts, including assault, harassment, stalking, terroristic threats, and more, committed by a spouse, former spouse, household member, or someone in a dating relationship.Victims can seek immediate protection by filing for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) in the local Family Court or with the police. This order may grant emergency relief, such as prohibiting contact, removing the abuser from a shared residence, and addressing custody issues. A hearing is scheduled within 10 days to determine if a Final Restraining Order (FRO) is warranted.
