Feature Request: Automated Stems Activation in Serato DJ

Dj Abril 8:10 PM - 28 January, 2025
Dear Serato DJ Team,

I am writing to propose a feature that could significantly enhance the workflow for DJs who extensively utilize the Stems functionality in Serato DJ. The ability to isolate or emphasize elements such as vocals, melody, and bass has become indispensable in my performances, especially given the genre of music I specialize in.

Currently, activating multiple stems simultaneously while managing mixer controls—such as cutting low frequencies—can be challenging. This often requires real-time manual adjustments, which can limit creative possibilities during a performance.

I suggest implementing a feature that allows DJs to set predefined activation points for stems within a track. For instance, being able to mark specific moments where the vocals, melody, and bass are automatically isolated or emphasized during playback. This automation would free DJs to focus on other aspects of their performance, such as EQ adjustments or transitions, without the need for manual stem activation.

To my knowledge, this specific functionality is not currently available in other DJ software. While platforms like VirtualDJ, rekordbox, and Traktor Pro 4 have introduced real-time stem separation capabilities, the ability to automate stem activations at designated points within a track would be a pioneering feature for Serato DJ.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. I believe it would greatly benefit DJs who rely heavily on stems and further distinguish Serato DJ as an innovator in the industry.

Best regards,

Abril

+1 for this as well (it's a very good suggestion), however, just wanted to point out that this does already exist on other platforms (e.g. VirtualDJ allows for stem control via track action points).

This is unfortunately no serato feature but with a little bit knowledge you can do things like this.
I did this:
www.dropbox.com

Red pads are the current stem state:
on = Stem is currently turned on
off = Stem is currently turned off

White pads are the state the stem should be:
on = Stem should be turned on
off = Stem should be turned off

This gets automatically triggered when two tracks hit a cue point by the same time, as you can see in the display.

So Serato could implement something like this, if they want to.

You actually can go into songs in Virtual DJ and apply STEMS to various parts of the song then save the file. It will then play that way each time you play it.
