Won't make a difference, no one understands what they're saying besides the occasional hook.

I guess you're right, yeah this is wrong for the label to agree to such terms, but it is their company and they can make their own rules. Does "no homo" count?
But on the flip side, I do support some aspects of this. One of the local hip-hop stations here in New York stated that they will no longer air songs promoting gun violence, drug-dealing, demoralization of women, etc. Those were never meant to be a part of the elements anyway.

Damn D, I just can't stay away from a thread about censorship. I'll skip the long winded rants this time. You know this is bullshit.
Part of the act states: "There's no space in the music community for hatred and prejudice, including no place for racism, violence, sexism or homophobia."
Sigh.

man freedom of speech is and has always been an issue! Look back to ice-t's iceburg he dedicated a whole song to it!
"pac & tha rows issues with C.Delores Fucker oops i mean Tucker.
I'm hoping tunes wont get censored in any way as artistic rights & fredom of speech or some of the things our grandparents risked their lives to keep & a bunch of doo gooders & rainbow flag wavers have no right to take that away from us! Be that about drug dealing, bank robberies, gay's lesbians, money, blacks, whites, Indinans, chineese etc etc!
As d.range mentioned its difficult to stop once the ball gets rolling!

Also if they gonna do that with music they gonna do that with books magazines movies the innanet newspapers etc etc!
As if it will not just cover the music sector it will be a whole heap fairer but beenie man makes movies too so how stupid would it be to say he cant say that on wax but he can say what he likes in a movie!

I agree that music should be like this anyway, but artists should be free to talk about anything they want and win/lose fans accordingly.

Mistake one - Artists thinking they can talk politics.
Mistake two - Artists thinking that using gay bashing lyrics won't create an outrage.
I prefer that songs not promote violence or racial hatred. People listen to songs and recite the lyrics without thinking about it. They're speaking it and eventually some of them think that's how they're supposed to act/respond.
But I prefer to take another route with regards to this - if you don't like it, don't buy it! If you don't buy it eventually they'll get the idea...
If you don't like the lyrics don't go to the shows!
Just like they have freedom to sing what they want, you have the freedom to not buy it, not listen to it, and not attend the concerts.
If they wanted to make a difference they'd put artists who were homophobes on 'Queer eye for the straight guy'. hehehehehehe....

to me its not a matter of talking politics, its a restraint on artistic expression. NO artist should have to stop and think about who they might offend, if the flow of artistic expression causes them to say something, then thats how it was meant to be,original.
these artists are agreeing to not use homophobic language in their music, but they can still talk about guns & degrade women.
imagine the uproar if an artist was asked to remove a painting of 2 gay men, and then asked to agree not to create art like that.
and with reggae, as was jokingly said earlier, is at times hard to understand, all the slang that's sprinkled in, you might be walking around singing something that you don't even know what it means...
